Since the 1900s, this renovated stately house originally constructed by “Thambu Master” in the heart of Jaffna has been passed down via their families.

In 2018 the owner’s family made the decision to formally welcome guests from around the world, into their ancestral stately home. Whether you are a first-time visitor or returning to treasured childhood memories, you can unwind in this charming haven, encircled by lush greenery and barely touched beaches. The hotel is situated 20 minutes from Palaly Airport, 8 minutes from Jaffna Train station, and a short walk to Nallur Kovil, Jaffna Market and nearby restaurants.

Bungalows are super clean and cosy. Thambu Illam boasts of rooms with every amenity for contemporary luxury hospitality. Accommodation offered includes: the Superior Deluxe room, Deluxe room and Standard room. The Superior Deluxe room has a sitting area and sofa and is surrounded by plants, created with an open plan concept. The Deluxe room provides luxurious comfort for up to three people.

The Standard room is designed to provide a small, comfortable atmosphere for a quick, relaxing stopover, which accommodates 2 guests.

Experiences

From the hotel with a guide or even on your own, visit the famous Nallur Kovil, the intriguing Manthiri Manai, or the historic Nagadeepa temple, among the many historical themed attractions in the vicinity. Jaffna Public library and Jaffna Fort are important landmarks you can visit during your stay. Delft Island is a must visit if you have time when in Jaffna.

You can later dip in their welcoming swimming pool to unwind after a busy day and refresh yourself after a spell in the warm climate.
