Cape Resort Weligama

Cape Weligama is part of the Resplendent Ceylon “best of Sri Lanka” circuit, created by the family-owned Dilmah Tea Company.

The scenic resort, part of the Relais & Chateaux portfolio, is sprawled over twelve tropical acres atop a singular promontory above the Indian Ocean on Sri Lanka’s southern coast, just thirty minutes east of Galle.

You can expect breath-taking views, which perfectly compliment the 39 private retreats created by Lek Bunnag, one of Asia’s most renowned architects. The Moon Pool on the brink of a cliff is the best pool in Cape Weligama, which also has a number of private and semi-private pools. The Cove Pool is great for families. The 60-metre infinity pool that appears to flow effortlessly into the dazzling sea, as well as the hotel’s dining areas, all catch Weligama’s famous sunsets.

Comfort

There’s a collection of Villas & Suites. The Suites are in sets of four in two storey houses, each named after a writer/poet of old Ceylon. There are two Suites on each floor, which can be interconnected via the veranda. Houses are named Arthur C Clarke, Pablo Neruda, James Emerson Tennent, Leonard Woolf.

The Villas are set within eight stone ringed gardens, with each garden comprising two to three freestanding Villas and a 15m swimming pool. The gardens are named after explorers or writers who travelled on historic Ceylon journeys.

Experiences

Pick from scuba diving to surfing lessons, lake kayaking to rice paddy bicycling, or you may find the greatest pleasure in simply unwinding on your private shaded terrace. The crescent-shaped infinity Moon Pool curves expansively around the cape’s edge, taking in sweeping, 270-degree views.

There's a Cybex equipped gym for keeping in shape after overindulging on the resort’s extravagant cuisine. And two adjacent public beaches. West Beach, accessed via a specially built cliff staircase and East Beach, a 5-minute walk from the resort. A reef provides safe swimming conditions.

Gastronomy

Three main dining venues offer sumptuous experiences. Or dine on your own generous veranda. Wake up to breakfast on your veranda or savour an intimate private poolside barbecue amongst family and friends.

The day’s freshest catch is cooked to order in the Ocean Terrace. Or sample Sri Lanka’s iconic local dishes. The Tableau Chef's Table is Cape’s signature dining experience with changing menus. The Surf Bar provides a relaxed, yet refined, venue for traditional afternoon cream tea, or to linger over sunset cocktails and after dinner nightcaps under the stars.
