Gileemale Walawwa

It is a wonderful area where the layers of time are peeled back to expose a historically significant mansion that served as a rest stop for Sri Lankan rulers before they began their adventurous journey up the mystical Adam’s Peak.

The Walawwa is located within the luxuriant 25-acre Gileemale Estate, which supports conventional farming practices and is home to Sabaragamuwans who cultivate cinnamon, tap rubber, collect coconuts, and harvest tea.

On the foothills of Sri Pada, Gileemale is a historical reserve and a symbiosis of man and nature where visitors can observe birds flitting about while listening to the Kalu ganga’s meditative murmurs, taking in the calming atmosphere of the Sabaragamuwan community, and enjoying royal hospitality fit for a king.

Why do we love Gileemale Walawwa?

We do love Gileemale Walaawa because the historic Walawwa and estate along with the bungalow continue to thrive, providing hospitality to travellers from across the world, reinvigorating their souls with a plethora of sights and activities that hark back to tradition, spirituality and symbiotic living, while being a model for conservation and sustainable progress for all.

The place is wonderful with nature around and very friendly staff caring for you from the moment you arrive at their premises. It is a great place to slow down and unwind.

What can I look forward to?
