Saman Villas

Around 2 hours from Colombo, the award-winning Jetwing Saman Villas, Sri Lanka’s first boutique hotel, is located in the peaceful fishing village of Aruruwella, Bentota.

Saman Villas is perched on a rocky headland that divides two seemingly endless, surf-swept, pristine beaches of golden sand, backed by the lush greenery of coconut plantations.

Close by is a fishing village but you would not know it, the only sounds are sea gulls’ cries and the surf below. A terraced garden draws the eye to a dramatic infinity-edge pool. The resort is inspired by ancient Sri Lankan architecture. Well-known Spanish designer, Arturo Alvarez, handmade the lighting in each of the four dining spaces introducing Sri Lanka to the high-end idea of emotive lighting.

We love Saman Villas because this lovely well-maintained resort is beautifully located overlooking the beach on Sri Lanka’s south-west coast. The staff here are friendly and attentive, and have been with the property for over a decade, their love for it clearly shows.

The infinity pool has a wonderful view of the sunset and the personal plunge pool overlooks the beach too. This is by far one of the best hotels in the region, serving delectable fare not just rich in taste, but aesthetically pleasing too.
