Tientsin Bungalow – Tea Trails

Named in honour of the Chinese city from which the original tea seedling came, Tientsin Bungalow is amongst one of the first plantation bungalows to be built in the region.

Built in 1888, in the Bogawantalawa valley, its dignified character still stirs memories of yesteryear.

Tea Trails is part of the Resplendent Ceylon “best of Sri Lanka” circuit, a collection of five colonial-era tea planters’ bungalows created by the family-owned Dilmah Tea Company, and Tientsin is one of them. The other properties in this collection are Summerville Bungalow, Dunkeld Bungalow, Norwood Bungalow, and Castlereagh Bungalow. Rates at Tea Trails bungalows are all-inclusive and you can move to any of the bungalows in turn to take in the full experience.

Tientsin bungalow offers accommodation in 6 large rooms namely Irvine Stewart Master Suite, Bretherton Garden Suite, Moir Garden Suite, Fraser Garden Suite, Bremer Luxury room and Meares Luxury room. Rooms are named after tea planters who lived in the bungalow. They offer a taste of heritage luxury with solid teak furnishings, antique touches, and plush beds.

Master Suites with a separate living room, Garden Suites with verandahs to private gardens and Luxury Rooms of great character are offered. A professional butler service is available round the clock.

Possible outdoor activities include guided scenic walks and hikes, mountain bike rides, kayaking in the Castlereagh Reservoir, croquet, tennis, and the one-of-a-kind tea experiences: The guided tour of the Dunkeld Tea Factory where the resident Tea Planter passionately delves into all aspects of tea. You can later luxuriate in a spa treatment in the privacy and the comfort of your room.

Gastronomy

A traditional Bed Tea starts the day. All meals, snacks, high tea, beverages, wines and beers and non-premium alcohol are included on the room rate.

Bringing together the subtle influences of the flavours of tea, the Tea Infused Dinner is a signature culinary experience unique to Tea Trails. Tea Infused dinners are a must-try.

There are menus, but the sumptuous meals can also be tailored to suit your tastes. If you plan to be out the whole day, a delectable picnic hamper will be sent with you wherever you want.
