Lunuganga – Teardrop

Celebrated Architect Geoffrey Bawa’s country estate, Lunuganga, with its beautiful interiors and original Bawa’s artwork and blueprints in the main residence, will open your mind to a beautiful and bygone era.

Located a mere 15-minute drive from the popular coastal destination Bentota, Lunuganga offers a tranquil yet exciting and educational stay.

Purchased in 1948, the site was a rubber estate and over the next forty years, the acclaimed Sri Lankan architect painstakingly transformed it to its present glory. This seductive hideout is edged by the picturesque Dedduwa Lake with its tropical gardens. Other things to do in Bentota, if you can bear to peel yourself away from Lunuganga, include jet skiing and windsurfing, and boat trips on the Madu Ganga river estuary.

Why do we love Lunuganga?

Forty years of hard work has gone into the development of this masterpiece and we love it because of the exquisite interior and exterior architecture as well as the glorious gardens. The extensive gardens are definitely a veritable paradise for nature-lovers.

Magical, enchanting, a tropical immersion, Lanuganga is not a regular hotel, but an absolute wonderland for anyone with taste in art, architecture and antiquities. Management by Teardrop Hotels ensures continued attention to perfection. Lunuganga staff from the cleaning staff to the management are extremely friendly, considerate and hospitable.

What can I look forward to?

Lanuganga is not just a destination, it is a glimpse into the creative soul of one of Sri Lanka’s greatest artists, the architect Geoffrey Bawa. Here you will find a serene, natural haven for body, mind and soul.
