Located a mere 15-minute drive from the popular coastal destination Bentota, Lunuganga offers a tranquil yet exciting and educational stay.

Purchased in 1948, the site was a rubber estate and over the next forty years, the acclaimed Sri Lankan architect painstakingly transformed it to its present glory. This seductive hideout is edged by the picturesque Dedduwa Lake with its tropical gardens. Other things to do in Bentota, if you can bear to peel yourself away from Lunuganga, include jet skiing and windsurfing, and boat trips on the Madu Ganga river estuary.

Lunuganga Country Estate offers 9 bedrooms, carefully designed to obtain maximum natural light and air and crafted to take advantage of different views of the garden and lake beyond.

Available accommodations are named Cinnamon Hill Room, Glass House, Gallery Studio Suite, Gate House, Main House Studio, Ena’s Bedroom, Ena House Guest Suite and Ena House Master Suite. Some of the suites also feature individual sit outs where you can sit lazing in tranquillity and serenity and listen to the songs of exotic birds.

Get pleasantly lost exploring the country house and its beautiful courtyards or enjoying extensive guided walks or meditating on your own. Several scattered outdoor areas around the estate either overlooking the lake, ponds, jungles or paddy fields, offer the chance to spend hours admiring nature or just simply relaxing, absorbing serenity.

The Bewis Country Estate, belonging to his brother, is another nearby gem. Jet skiing, windsurfing, boat rides, and Madhu River estuary excursions are amongst the other activities that are possible from Lunuganga Estate.

Gastronomy

Sample some of the island's most popular delicacies, contemporary gourmet cuisine and modern Asian fusion specialties. The freshest local ingredients are used and many of the fruits, vegetables, and herbs are taken daily from the garden or local markets in the village.

Traditional rice and curry dishes are available for lunch and dinner, while morning dishes like scrambled eggs and handmade granola are available alongside more familiar western fare. Coffee, tea, and freshly squeezed juices are available during the day.
