Malabar Hill

Located in Southwest Sri Lanka on a hilltop among lush tropical scenery, between the mountains and the sea, Malabar Hill is ideally situated to showcase Sri Lanka’s rich biodiversity and surroundings.

Designer Lawson Johnston drew inspiration through extensive regional travel and research in Asia and Sri Lanka which served him well during the 10-year design process that resulted in Malabar Hill. With its locally made terracotta roof and floor tiles, and recycled timber doors and windows, Malabar Hill is therefore a tribute to custom design and artisan craftsmanship.

Why do we love Malabar Hill?

We do love Malabar Hill due to its sheer architectural individuality; featuring artisan craftsmanship, magical Moor ambience with the moulded trellises, handmade terracotta roof and floor tiles, reclaimed timber doors and windows taking you on a surprise adventure through Kerala perhaps. This hotel, which is completely surrounded by nature, also provides its guests with an immersive outdoor living experience that will refresh them and take them to a different world.

Staff are polite, cooperative and flexible, always prioritising their guest’s needs and making their stay comfortable and hassle free.

Malabar Hill offers accommodation in Ocean View Villas and Wetland Sanctuary Pool Villa. Ocean view villas, which overlook the Indian Ocean, provide panoramic views of the seascape beyond the white dunes of Weligama Bay. Wetland Sanctuary Pool Villas offers rare Hillside views over a unique wetland sanctuary.

The 14 luxurious villas are integrated into the surrounding natural terrain, offering beautiful views and cosy tranquillity. Private patios with infinity pools, handcrafted furniture, and a remarkable sense of spaciousness and privacy are accessible through floor to ceiling glass doors.

Gastronomy

Hill House Restaurant is known for delicious and well-balanced cuisine. The restaurant makes the most of Sri Lanka's abundant foodstuffs with a menu that draws inspiration from both Sri Lankan culinary tradition and the balmy Mediterranean beaches. The best from the daily market, world-famous spices, and artisan cheeses are just a few of Sri Lanka's many culinary treasures used here.

For breakfast you can choose buffalo curd that was cultured nearby, fiery chickpea stew for lunch, and for dinner, your pick of the morning's line-caught catch, direct from the Indian Ocean.
