Mihirgarh literally means Sun’s fortress. Just 50 minutes’ drive to the south of Jodhpur and situated on the edge of the Thar Desert. A gorgeous, 9-suite fantasy fort in the Thar Desert with private plunge pools, Royal Picnics and Marwar horse-riding. Finished in October 2009, Mihirgarh (‘the Sun’s fortress’) is the result of a 12-year dream by its Rajput husband-and-wife owners, Sidharth and Rashmi Singh. They wanted to celebrate the rich culture of Western Rajasthan. Built largely to their own design the softly rounded edges of Mihirgarh’s crenulated sandstone walls cleverly belie its newness, and the graceful layout, Rajasthani antiques, vivid decorative art and graceful furnishings are beautiful to behold. The 9 suites are bright and spacious, with bold colour themes (brick-red, olive, gold), mirrored open-fire chimneys, ochre-stone bathrooms and little plunge or spa pools on each private verandah.

Bishnoi Village Safari is organized to help tourists take a glimpse of the rich cultural life of Bishnoi Villages and True Rajasthan. Bishnois are strong lovers of wild animals. It is because of their protection that in Bishnoi dominated areas, deer and antelope (such as blue bulls, black bucks, chinkaras and chowsinghas) are seen grazing peacefully in their fields. Bishnois are known to be very violent and aggressive in protecting trees and wildlife. It is said that if you are a hunter, then the worst thing that could happen to you is to be caught hunting by a Bishnoi. Unlike most Hindu communities, Bishnois bury their dead instead of cremating them. This is because of the strict prohibition on the felling of trees, the wood of which is required for cremation
After breakfast, visit Mehrangarh Fort, situated on a low sandstone Hill, including Moti-Mahal and Phool Mahal. Also visit Jaswant Thada, an imposing Marble Memoriam built in 1899.
Mehrangarh Fort
Spread over 5 km. On a stiff rugged hill and looking down from a height of about 100 Mts. The fort appears invincible and impenetrable from outside but houses some of the most intricately adorned palaces with exquisitely carved panels and latticed windows. Moti Mahal, Phool Mahal, Sheesh Mahal, Sileh Khana and Daulat Khana are some of the important palaces.
Post our visit to the fort, we will walk down for a Jodhpur Heritage walk
Jodhpur, the capital, was founded by Rao Jodha in the mid-1400, a proficient Rajput king, belonging from Rathore Clan. The City continues to retain its medieval feel with numerous step wells, ancient temples, historic havelis and Blue houses. Dive deep into the heart of Jodhpur to discover the lesser known treasures of this enchanting city. Learn about interesting legends from the past, Peep into the life of locals, Meet and interact with city’s residents, wander through narrow alleyways dotted with Indigo colored houses.
As we have mentioned before, the soul of a city is usually within its people and the personalities you meet. Hence, our lunch today will be inside the forted walls in a traditional home with a family who once in a while takes a special guest as a part of their lunch. Full of memories, you will have the opportunity to see what the typical Rajashtani home looks like and imagine its liveliness as children run from room to room, with echoes heard in the courtyard. While enjoying some of the traditional dishes every Jodhpur house has grown up on.
Post lunch, we get into tuk tuk’s and make our way towards the old City near the Clock Tower. You may not know, but Jodhpur is a major handicraft and textile export hub. We will visit Maharani Textiles (even if it’s just for the experience). From the front, it’s indiscreet, but as you squeeze up the first set of narrow stairs into the labyrinth of colourful (floor-to-ceiling) heaps of shawls and carpets, you know you’re somewhere special. You might say that textile houses in India are a dime a dozen, but what sets Maharani apart from the rest, is the family’s heritage. It’s 98 years old and the present owners are fifth generation in this business. Back in the day, western dealers would come and buy some antiques. After, as the business continued, some designers came to them with their own ideas. Over time, they have supplied fashion houses like Chanel, Miu Miu, Prada, Kenzo, Armani, etc. This little unassuming shop has seen been an export hub for many designers.
Luxury tents have always been an important part of Rajput lifestyle. Constant campaigns in far flung lands meant long stays in tents under inhospitable conditions. Tents were the only luxury available and soon these “homes away from home” evolved into mobile, mini-palaces. RAAS Chhatrasagar captures the essence of this romance. There is still a major focus on bird life, farming communities, walks and rewilding with the activities being focused on exactly that. Accompanied by one of the knowledgeable naturalists, wander out to explore the farm, local temples and meet the villagers. Take a gentle dawn stroll around the lake,

Shatrunjai Singh Chundawat, a scion of the Deogarh family decided to rebuild heritage by way of a home for his family. There were many discussions on the style and design. But a couple of things that he was sure of was that it had to have plenty of room for a regular flow of friends. He wanted to showcase the local craftsmanship in his home and provide an opportunity for the local boys and girls to learn the tenets of hospitality.
Read MoreDeogarh being a principality of Mewar he wanted influences of Mewar heritage architecture to suffuse his home and so he looked to Udaipur and drew elements of inspiration from the charming Bagor ki Haveli at Udaipur, the City Palace of Udaipur and the artists who worked on these properties and that’s how Dev Shree came to be. Built of Nimbahera stone the local artisans clinked away at blocks of stone for almost 2 years, transforming them into intricately carved pillars which adorn the deep veranda overlooking the Ragho Sagar Lake. An ideal spot to relax, read a book or watch the local migratory birds on the lake.
Leave Chhatrasagar and drive to Deogarh. (130 kms/ 2 ½ hrs). Lunch at the hotel and afternoon free to explore the surroundings.
A great way to commence the day. A morning yoga class by the palm tree lined pool or on the veranda with the sun rising in the foreground is great to cultivate mental focus, serenity and positivity. Let the stresses of life fall by the wayside as you breathe into a yogic posture. Breakfast at the hotel and get ready for the rural train ride. Dev Shree offers a train ride–a magical experience to traverse down the Aravalli hill section in a small meter gauge train. The journey begins after breakfast when your guide will meet you at Dev Shree at 10:00 am and take you to the charming Kamblighat station. He will purchase the tickets and help you board the train which arrives at 10:30 am.It’s a local train and one is seated on wooden seats along with the locals who can be a wedding party, pilgrims, daily travelers, children and sometimes even their cattle. Phulad to Khamblighat journey by a local train across the Aravalli range is a pleasant experience. The train traverses the hills in one gradual giant right turn switchback, all the while gaining gently in elevation. In the process of negotiating the sharpest part of the railroad track the train crosses a couple of viaducts. The ride then continues slowly uphill offering fine views of a vast valley, small deep gorges and distant ridges, before easing into the plateau of Khamblighat. The train stops only once in a vague station in the middle of sparsely wooded expanse of virgin landscape, where monkeys descend upon the windows expecting and getting their treat of biscuits, while a handful of passengers get off and board. Back to hotel for lunch and afternoon free to enjoy the relaxed natural environs of Dev Shree and surrounding villages, afternoon with a family member though Villages and rough country going past some farms and village huts, you may visit the cave temple largely depending on the season but each day a drive goes out ending on a lake side with tea and biscuits.
JAWAI is where the hills throw the moon out and just as soon absorb its glow onto their gorges; where nomadic Rabari herdsmen are as much a part of the earth’s tales as the mysterious felines that grace these hills and vanish at will into their folds; where pastoral fields meet and merge with wild grasslands and the swells of the JAWAI Bandh’s waters lap at the toes of mighty granite forms; where flamingos flock and cranes in their hundreds dance to springtime sounds.
Read MoreUntil recently, Bera was an unknown part of Rajasthan. It gained its popularity in recent times, because of its amazing leopard sightings. The backdrop of Aravalli Hills, with scrubland vegetation such as cactus and Keekar, small hillocks with caves provide the perfect setting for Leopards. In Bera, it is the Rabaris who live amongst the Leopards. The Leopards do prey on domestic livestock but this relationship has been built between man and animal, so that leopards are not bothered by villagers walking by them.
The best time to see the leopards is morning and late evening. Hence, our safaris will be done during those times, with day activities encompassing some village visits and walks in the nearby hills. There are also possibilities of seeing Nilgai, Jungle Cat, Crocodiles at Jawai Bandh (Dam), Osprey, Black Shouldered Kite, Sarus Cranes, Asian Openbill Stork, Black Ibis, Ruddy Shelduck, Pelicans, to name a few.
After breakfast drive to Jawai (130 kms/ 3 hrs) Upon arrival check in at Camp. Evening game drive by customized 4×4 Jeep.
An early start to your morning game drive, certainly before the sun is up, our customized 4×4 jeep, with a driver tracker and naturalist on board will convey you expertly to every corner of Jawai. Leopards are Jawai’s predominant attraction and the thriving population of the felines has always ranged across this region. The mystery of the big cat is unraveled for guests by informed guides, and yet, a measure of that mystery remains long after a sighting is over, to be relieved forever. Evening game drive by customized 4×4 Jeep.

Although it may sound strange for a tropical country, Sri Lankan hotels operate on seasonal rates. This is simply due to a particular region having attractions or weather that’s best enjoyed during a specific time of the year and also due to the demand coinciding with the European winter season. So it’s not uncommon to have two rates that apply on different dates in the same month.
But to make things less complicated for you, Experiential Journeys does things differently by giving you the lowest season ball-park rate on the website, and follows up with the exact rate upon receiving an inquiry or booking request along with the confirmed travel dates. You will not be charged anything until the final price is agreed upon.
Experiential Journeys is an Australian based company and uses AUD as the main currency. We serve a global community of travellers predominantly from New Zealand, U.K., U.S.A., Canada & U.A.E.
