A city that offers both ancient and modern day India, is Delhi. Not only the nation’s capital city it is the third largest city in India and one of the fastest growing in Asia. The various ancient ruins seen in the city are seemingly silent witnesses to its magnificent history. Old Delhi brings to focus a maze of narrow, maddening alleys and back roads amidst old buildings betraying a colonial past but not overshadowing freshly prepared, piping-hot street food and vendors wooing you to yards of colourful materials and an assortment of craft. Juxtaposed is New Delhi, hi-tech, shopping malls, wide roads and a never-ending bustle of shoppers, teenagers and visitors from all over the country. You’ll find anything to everything: cosmopolitan New Delhi never sleeps.
After breakfast, we’ll get you started on your tour: taking you to Old Delhi: visiting Jama Masjid – the largest mosque in India – and driving past Red Fort – once the most opulent fort and jewel of the Mughal Empire (Red Fort is closed on Mondays). Then a rickshaw ride in the old city market of bustling Chandani Chowk.
Then you will see the ‘other’ side – New Delhi. Interestingly, New Delhi offers more historical sites than Old Delhi but reflects a colonial past. At the same time, you will be amazed by the bustle of people getting about the malls, cinemas and of course the food – so many street food options and restaurants to indulge in.
You will reach Kanha by plane and car. Our drive will take us through rural countryside eventually stopping in the sleepy town of Mandla (sacred city for Gond tribes) where the Narmada River, second holiest to the Ganges, is the centre of activity. Enroute you will briefly break journey to enjoy your picnic lunch.
We will be staying with the family whose commitment to Tiger Conservation goes back 3 generations. Kailash Sankhala, initiated and is the founder of Project Tiger Reserves. The Kanha Jungle Lodge and the travel company you are travelling with in India – belong to this conservationist family. You will have the first hand opportunity to interact with them and discover what inspires their commitment to Tiger Conservation.
You will spend the first half of your day socialising with the Sankhala family and then watch the award winning documentary TIGERLAND which focuses on two conservationists, one of them being Kailash Sankhala.
You will then leave to the airport to board a flight to Raipur. Our representative will meet upon your arrival at Raipur Airport and then drive you to Kanha. A journey covering 200km, it will be a 4 hour journey, with a break enroute.
Set on the Chhota Nagpur Plateau in Madhya Pradesh, Kanha is a 366 sq mile preserve of grassy plains and sal forests and home to the endangered tiger, Barasingha or swamp deer, alongside leopard, sloth bear and wild dog,
You will start your day with a Morning Safari in a 4×4 jeep accompanied by a resident naturalist and forest guide. They will take you on trails for optimum sightings of Kanha National Park. There will be a break for lunch and a good rest before returning for the Afternoon Safari by 4×4 open jeep.
Kanha’s mixed forests, grasslands (known as ‘maidan’) and vast meadows create the ideal habitat for grazing by chital or spotted deer (Barasingha). Famously known for its vast spread of Sal forest, referred to as ”the Ngorongoro of India”, where the Barasingha frequent midst its teak and bamboo trees – brought back from the brink of extinction.
After breakfast you will head for Bandhavgarh. Spread on the Vindya Hills of Madhya Pradesh, Bandhavgarh reaches about 105 sq km and boasts of India’s highest density of tigers. The Park consists of sal and a mixed forest of bamboo, flatland, grassland, and a complex of deciduous forests – once the hunting grounds of the Maharaja of Rewa.

Accompanied by a resident naturalist and forest park tracker in a 4x 4 jeep, the whole drive comes alive with your tracker who keeps a track of the tigers’ movements by checking their spoor of the tigers and listening to the warning calls of animals – in a bid to sight the tigers of Bandhavgarh. Energised by a picnic breakfast, this safari will truly be an adventure.
First thing in the morning, you will start your day with a Morning Safari. The drive to Bandhavgarh will take 6 hours covering a distance of 260 km.
Bhandavgarh has a large biodiversity, especially with large breeding populations of leopards and deer. You will see the richness of the Park as you take that Morning Safari. The Park derives its name from the most prominent hill, said to have been gifted by Lord Rama to his brother Laxman, to keep a watch on Lanka (now known as Sri Lanka). You will see numerous avifauna too, such as the coppersmith barbet, Indian grey hornbill, and the common myna, amongst others.
Among wildlife enthusiasts in India it is commonly said “In most parks you have to be lucky to see a tiger, in Bandhavgarh you have to be unlucky to not see a tiger.” The National Park was included in the Project Tiger Network in 1993, given its status as an excellent tiger habitat. Bandhavgarh is also home to more than 25 species of mammals including: the tiger, panthers, wolves, hyenas, wild dogs, gaur, cheetal, sambhar, barking deer, sloth bears and many more. Additionally, the Park has over 250 species of birds along with about 80 types of butterflies and a number of reptiles.
In the morning, you will take on a 5 ½ hour journey covering 230km to reach Khajuraho. This city is located in the Chattarpur district of Madhya Pradesh. Back in the 12th century it was the site of 85 temples spread over 20 sq km. Today there are 20 temples surviving over just 6 sq km. Built during the Chandela Dynasty between 950 – 1050 AD, it is proof of architectural skill and artistic prowess. Its ancient temples depict some of the finest art in the world but also speak of many tales captured for posterity. So on arriving in Khajuraho, you will simply unwind, rest and enjoy a relaxing night at the hotel, ahead of a busy day.
Following check out, you will make your way to the magnificent Jain and Hindu temples. The sculptures are divided into the Eastern, Western and Southern sculptures: created between the 10th and 12th centuries celebrating a host of gods and goddesses. From intricately beautiful to the erotic, the craftmanship frozen in time, will amaze you.
After the tour you will proceed to Khajuraho Airport to fly to Varanasi. On your arrival, our representative will receive you and transfer you to the hotel.
Varanasi or Banaras, is an ancient city where Hindus believe that if one dies here, one would attain salvation and freedom from the cycle of birth and rebirth.
Come evening, after resting from your flight in, we will take you to witness the Aarti (prayer) ceremony, an ancient ritual carried out by the bank of the Ganges River. Conducted by priests of only the Vedas and Upanishads: five elevated planks, a layered brass lamp, an idol of Ganga Devi, flowers, incense sticks, conch shell and other ritualistic items, are all used to accompany the chanting and mantras. The air is punctured by the blowing of the conch shells and the aroma of incense sticks, as Mother Ganga is venerated for her blessings upon her faithful worshippers.
Many activities planned for you, we start with the Subah or Morning Banaras, a morning ritual. You will then visit ” Kedar Mandir” followed by attending a ritual called “Kusthi Akharas”. Later we will take you on a walk. Walking along the southernmost embankment of the Ganges, listening to the story of Tulsidas; translator of the sacred Ramayana text, Banaras poet and mystic. Sometimes, we may be interrupted by bells and yelling ,signalling to step aside as funerals come through – a ritual common to Varanasi.
After lunch, a late evening walk unravels the story behind Banaras being the great cremation ground of the god Shiva, ending with a late visit to the Sankata Devi temple (goddess of sorrows & a demon slayer) for a ritual worship service.
Founded in 1727, the capital city of the state of Rajasthan, Jaipur is also known as “Pink City”. Once ruled by Maharaja Sawai Ram Singh II, in a grand gesture of hospitality, had the whole city painted pink terracotta in honour of a royal guest. In fact, pink was considered the colour of hospitality. The Amber Fort is a centre piece here; on a hill top it presides over the city. The City Palace is open to the public courtesy of the present resident royal family and within the complex you will find the beautiful Chandra Mahal or Chandra Niwas which is most commanding: a seven storeyed wonder! Back to the present, you will take a walk through Jaipur’s bazaar, catching sight of various crafts and be overwhelmed by the aroma of freshly prepared street food!
You will start your day with an early morning yoga session at Ghat: the Ganga Ghats of Varanasi are a combination of the physical, metaphysical and supernatural elements embodied in a very spiritual, even divine manner. Under the guidance of experienced yoga masters, practise yoga and enjoy the rejuvenation of your senses in the freshness of your morning. After that, it will be time to check out and prepare for your departure for Jaipur; a two hour flight.
Jaipur is bejewelled by grandeur, brilliant architecture and history. You will start your tour by heading for the Amber Fort which houses halls, temples and gardens. On to Sheesh Mahal where elaborate mirror work takes precedence. In the City Palace complex, the seven-storeyed Chandra Mahal is a wonder with each floor housing unique paintings, mirror work, intricate woodwork and sculptural works of art. There is a beautiful peacock gate at the entry to the Mahal complete with screened balconies and a pavilion at the roof with a panoramic view of the city. The evening will wind down with a walk through the bazaar, a maze of arts and craft, made by using rich traditional artisan skills.
Agra – the city of Taj founded by Sikander Lodi in 1475 AD. Agra finds mention in the Mahabharata as Agraban. But power changed hands of this city, with Babur defeating the Lodis to capture not only Agra but also laid the foundation of the Mughal Empire. From the mid 16th century to early 17th century AD, Agra witnessed a frenzied growth and it was during this time when the symbol of love Taj Mahal was built, taking years to build, as materials were brought from lands far from India.
If you are up for it, an Air Balloon Safari is a fantastic way to sightsee the forts, terrains, the villages away from the concrete jungles…experiencing the vastness of Jaipur. It’s a totally different adventure to experience.
Alternatively, after breakfast we will take you to Agra. The city is 240 km away and is about a 5 hour journey – home of the Taj Mahal.
After a good night’s rest and a tea/coffee, you will be taken to see the wondrous Taj Mahal. At daybreak. Sunrise is considered the best time to see the palace. It is often said that the Taj Mahal seemingly changes colour, depending on the light and how the weather prevails, reflecting different hues on this symbol of love. A testament of Emperor Shah Jahan’s love for his wife Mumtaz, this white-marbeled palace commands a magical view across the crescent-shaped grassy floodplains of the Yamuna river. A timeless achievement in the range of Indo-Islamic architecture, this UNESCO Heritage Site took 21 years to construct…a site to behold at sunset.
After touring the Taj Mahal, designed by Ustad Ahmed Lahori who brought to the fore Indo-Islamic architecture, the play of light shadow, symmetry and colour combination through stone and granite – you will head back to your hotel for breakfast.
After that, you will visit Sheroes Hangout Café. This Café is testament to women who are survivors of acid attacks. Run solely by them, it houses a centre that runs campaigns, a library, a boutique where you can purchase handicrafts (and support their cause) and of course great food and drink.
The Café empowers these women and creates awareness for an issue that is very problematic in India.

Although it may sound strange for a tropical country, Sri Lankan hotels operate on seasonal rates. This is simply due to a particular region having attractions or weather that’s best enjoyed during a specific time of the year and also due to the demand coinciding with the European winter season. So it’s not uncommon to have two rates that apply on different dates in the same month.
But to make things less complicated for you, Experiential Journeys does things differently by giving you the lowest season ball-park rate on the website, and follows up with the exact rate upon receiving an inquiry or booking request along with the confirmed travel dates. You will not be charged anything until the final price is agreed upon.
Experiential Journeys is an Australian based company and uses AUD as the main currency. We serve a global community of travellers predominantly from New Zealand, U.K., U.S.A., Canada & U.A.E.
